Snowing!

February 2, 2009

The good news is, it’s snowing… the bad news – I’m in college and my train may be cancelled. It’s times like these when knowing where your mate’s girlfriend’s car keys are comes in handy. Now I just have to find the car – well the keys say vauxhall… this could be fun.

Everyone is excited the snow is getting heavier… I could really cry right now.

Lazyness!

January 30, 2009

I know… I’ve gotten lazy with the blog posting, I’m GOING to make myself post more often – I swear! I’ve been doing a lot of college coursework and personal web design things, so I strayed away from typing out blogs for a bit…

Oooer! I’ve got a reply!

January 22, 2009
Dear Joel
Thank you for your enquiry.
In order to foster or adopt any child you need to be approved. The two are different but for each, you need to be approved by a Panel of people. This would happen after you have been assessed which takes about 6 months. Given that we are placing vulnerable, often very troubled young people, we are looking for people with experience of looking after children who can demonstrate they have the skills and qualities needed for this. Usually people opt for either fostering or adoption, not both, as the plans made for adopted and fostered children are likely to be very different.
It might be useful for you to read up on the two. BAAF have a good website as do Fostering Network.
I hope this answers your question. Thanks again for your interest.

This has left me feeling pleasently suprised – although my dreams of fostering AND adoption at the same time has now been crushed, I can, at least decide what I want to do with more knowledge on my side. I think I may Foster for a bit, as soon as I have a stable living environment and job – just to get to grips with overnight care of little ones, then go on to adoption.

It Will Be a Long and Bumpy Road!

January 21, 2009

A Long and Bumpy Road

A Long and Bumpy Road

Well, today I further looked in to the idea of adoption, I found a checklist of everything I’ll have to go through. I talked to people, I went on a few message boards. You know what? No checklist can cover everything that needs to be done. The process of adoption can only be as predictable as the child you are trying to adopt, which isn’t very predictable at all!

I would like to give a special mention to UK Parents Lounge (http://www.ukparentslounge.com) because within a couple of minutes of joining their forum, I allready had support from members and moderators – helping to set me straight.

My Room Is Pink With A Bart Duvet!

January 20, 2009
My Room Is Pink With A Bart Duvet!

My Room Is Pink With A Bart Duvet!

Thats right! I have a pink room, and I sleep in a “Bart” themed bed. I do have a good reason for sleeping in such a stereotypical “metrosexual” room. This room used to belong to both of my sisters – then one of them – then the last one moved out and I grabbed at the oppurtunity. Pretty much the largest room in the house, you can see why I didn’t give this room back to my sisters when one of them moved in again. They get the little cube next door, where you can touch all four corners of the room when you stand in the middle (yes, it really is that small, maybe in a later blog you may get to see it).

I must confess, I have only recently taken to tidying my room; it used to be a complete sty, full of dirty washing and the remains of fast food – ANYWAY back to my girl power room.

Well, I know what you are all thinking – why doesn’t he just redecorate? I have been debating this for literally years. Now, it just seems silly to. I’m 17, soon to move away from my birth home. If I did redecorate, i’d end up having to move out within a few months – and my sisters would probably tear down all of my hard work. And the Bart duvet – well I actually have no excuse for that… I’m just lazy and its either that or a flowery/minnie mouse duvet.

But honestly… Have you noticed how I will probably get called “gay” by anyone who reads this? Stereotypes are a bit stupid. But I guess that I just stereotyped myself – i’m an idiot!

Anyway… Enough rambling. Hope you enjoyed seeing my pretty room – a tidy teenager… I wonder how long I will last?

WHAT?!

January 19, 2009

Hey!

Well, I’ve been looking in to fostering and adoption – because I want to do something to help kids less fortunate than myself, and want to make them happy! So basicly, i’m going to get the ball rolling early by saving for the cause! Today I went to Lloyds TSB and got a contract account, the conditions being nothing can be withdrawn before one year has passed, or no interest will be payed. At the bottom of each of my “adoption” posts, i’ll post a current fund value & particular fostering & adoption blogs I like.

So, I’ll get the ball rolling then…

Evanus: Prologue Updated!

January 18, 2009

Ok guys, so a few people have given me feedback. I have changed the boring bits, stopped the plot trailing off. I am now looking for some more help! Read through this new prologue, and tell me what is in need of revision.

Prologue

It is the height of summer in England. A brisk breeze throws itself upon the boats of a Cornish fishing village, where food is growing ever scarcer. The price of simple water and firewood is going up day by day since the downfall of parliament and martial law starts to take effect. The exhausted remains of the British army have called for a truce, but no one and nothing has replied. The fight for freedom seems to be turning into a never ending struggle – we feel like helpless babies – mourning for Mother Nature and begging her forgiveness.

Currency has become non-existent. Wherever the goods we need can be found, we must trade for something the other person needs. The receiving end usually wants a profit, so we end up sacrificing 100 liters of filtered water for enough firewood to see two of us through the week. Without the correct tools, how are we meant to gather firewood and food without causing ourselves serious injury? Where do our IT and Drama qualifications fit in to life now? Day to day life has turned in to a never ending struggle. Walking more than a mile is considered suicide in a group less than 5 – unless you want to be wolf food. Animals have taken back the concrete; buildings have fallen in to disrepair making the canned food unsalvageable.

The conditions we are living in have forced most of us to devolve back to our primal instincts. Work, play and relationships are no longer a focus for the human race; we are only interested in staying alive… the next meal, and shelter. We have disowned everything we falsely held dear; our technology has seized to help us. There are groups of us scattered all over Britain, we have no news of Ireland or the smaller isles, and we can only think they are in trouble too, as us. Plant life has started to die, leaving animals unable to graze and us unable to eat. Due to houses being too high maintenance and cold, we were forced to abandon our homes and build crudely camouflaged shelters in the grass – or should I say mud.

The smarter ones have found refuge in small towns and villages dotted across the UK, where the infected have not yet reached. The cities have become hunting grounds for human and infected alike; human trying to rid the UK of the over-enthusiastic infected, and the infected trying to up their numbers.

We still do not know if the royal family is dead or alive – after the invasion of Buckingham palace we can only fear the worst and look for a glimmer of hope. News has spread around that the quarantine of the United Kingdom will not be lifted until everything on the islands is dead. Our last radio transmission came through earlier today; it told us we have 5 days. 5 days until what? What could they possibly do to make us fear for our lives more so than we do already? Some people ignored this message; others heeded the warning and started preparing. People had already started to create barricades on all routes in and out of their cities – but this will not stop it coming, it always finds a way – all you can do is delay the inevitable. Our hearts are filled with hatred and our souls blackened with sin, many of us have lost kids, while some are left orphaned.

Unheard cries for help can be found across the nation – people warning us of things to come, things that have already happened and things we could never even dream of. Quite frankly, that just makes us more doubtful about current events. We didn’t know much about the government project Evanus, but rumors had it that the government where messing around with biological experiments right before the downfall and the byproduct oppression, lovingly named Merciless.

Imagine this; a beast covered from foot to waist in fur, the rest scarred and burnt flesh. An arm made of just muscle and blood – constantly dripping away. A head with no eyes, but somehow it see’s all. Legends, scriptures and religious books all foresee the power and great evil of such a beast; laying waste to any place/thing it comes across. All of this though, just speculation. There were no firsthand accounts, because there where never any survivors. The last thing you hear before you die is the dripping of blood, and a cold, deep roar.

Without vehicles and electricity we are lost. Like little children separated from our mothers… cut off from other cities and towns. If only we could keep going for a few more weeks, surely another country would come to our rescue? America won’t abandon a country that has been through Iraq and Afghanistan and came out the other side – will they?

The truth dawned on us… we are not just puppets anymore. Anything we want done, we will have to do ourselves. It is up to us to get out of here – but how can we?

Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes!

January 17, 2009

Hey there!

Well, i’ve changed a few things around, such as a more expanded category system and a slightly updated banner (with me in it). I think I may take another whack at that, as it doesn’t seem to have turned out how I like. I shall be posting up Facebook’s, Bebo’s and MySpace’s for myself soon.

Thanks, Joel

Evanus: Prologue

January 10, 2009

The following peice is a WIP, from a book I am working on called Evanus: The Merciless. Please comment honestly, and tell me what is good, bad and what you think would fit better (if you do).

London is now a no-man’s land and international waters are guarded 24/7. A state of emergency was never declared; parliament was destroyed long before it was foreseen. We can only ask ourselves what monstrosity we have unleashed upon Britain. We won the battle, but we lost the war. This is the story of Evanus: The Merciless.
